"FUCK TEXAS, SING FOR US"
available NOW.
The live album is available through retail, The Shop and Download. Entitled "Fuck Texas, Sing For Us", this is a quote of the audience chant that preceded our encore in New Orleans earlier this year and is not a reflection of the band's feeling towards Texas or Texans :)
The album was recorded during the HIGH tour of 2007/2008 and features selected recordings from a number of venues that have been spun together to form a single concert - much like we did on "...& Nobody Else". Mixed by Justin, Michael and Dean in the band's Bradford studio, the album has been mastered by Jon Astley, whose recent projects have included the re-remastering of The Who's back catalogue, and Joolz' new album Spirit Stories. Leaning heavily on material from HIGH, it also includes live recording of classics such as Poison Street, Family and 225 which have never been released on an official live album before. The version of Vagabonds is as re-worked by Marshall, substituting a Les Paul Custom for a violin.

After almost thirteen years as guitarist with New Model Army, Dave Blomberg has left the band to spend more time with his young family and concentrate on his other project 'Nozzle' whose second album 'Twisted Vision' is getting major label interest in the USA. His last performance with us was at this years Beautiful Days Festival where New Model Army formed the band for the performance of Rev Hammer's Freeborn John.
Dave's replacement has been confirmed as Marshall Gill, who was brought to our attention by a studio engineer with whom we worked on the new album. Marshall made his debut at the Festival de la Sierrevoise in Switzerland on August 27th. This will be followed by Dusseldorf, Warsaw and then the North American Tour.
European fans (other than those at the above dates) will get their first taste of the new line up on the first night of the tour in Exeter on October 13th.
We want to thank Dave for everything he has given to the band for the past twelve and a half years. His contribution and unique style will be missed, but we totally understand his decision that his family should come first. We wish him well with Nozzle who fans also got a chance to see at Beautiful Days this year.
Marshall picks up from a long line of exceptional guitarists with whom we have been proud to share a stage and we are sure he will fit right in.
Although this will come as a complete surprise to all of you, please understand that we were unable to make any announcement until now to protect the privacy of all concerned.
New Studio Album
The latest news on the new album is all positive. Justin and the band have been hard at work in their Bradford studio working up new material. A couple of the new songs have been previewed at acoustic shows over the summer, but the remainder are being kept very close to home.
The band will go into a studio buried deep in the Welsh hills later this month to lay the rhythm tracks. At the controls will be producer/engineer Chris Tsangarides whom the band met earlier this year when he mixed the audio for the Live 161203 DVD. Chris has a tremendous track record stretching back 20 years with a wide and varied roster of artists that include Killing Joke, The Sisters Of Mercy, Concrete Blond, Depeche Mode, Gary Moore, Ozzy Osbourne and (so it says here) Billy Ocean!
It will be clear by the end of the month exactly how work is progressing, but we remain confident of a spring 2005 release (mind you, we said that last year, and the year before...............)
We will endeavor to keep you all up to date with progress

Art & Artefacts Exhibition
Was successfully launched at the Courthouse Arts Centre, a gallery in Otley near Bradford on Saturday 25th of September by a sold out show from Justin and Dean. The exhibition features a small selection of the forthcoming big display and was centred around original Joolz artwork, including the original Ghost Of Cain leather jacket. There was also a live "chat" on the Noticeboard during the event which can still be viewed.
The full exhibition, including more of Joolz' originals, backdrops, rough lyric originals, old instruments, t-shirt designs, music, DVDs and much more will open at the international gallery, Cartwright Hall in Bradford on the 11th December and run until the 30th of January 2005. The preview will run in Otley until October 9th.
There has been a tremendous interest in this exhibition from many different parts of Europe and we hope to incorporate it into the celebrations for next years 25th anniversary of New Model Army.
1980 - 2005
25 years of New Model Army
In addition to the release of the long awaited new studio album next year there is to a flurry of activity regarding the band's 25th birthday. EMI are already in discussion with us to re-master and release the EMI studio catalogue. These are rumoured to come in special 2CD sets with the full album on one disc and associated rarities and bonus tracks & b-sides on the other. More news on that next newsletter.
Plus, with a new album will come a long and wide reaching tour. We are hopefully to finally return to S America some time next year having.
Nozzle
The new Nozzle album "Twisted Vision" is now available in The Shop and will shortly be in store across Europe.
For those that are unaware, Nozzle is the side project formed by NMA guitarist Dave Blomberg and features Michael Dean on drums.
New EMI compilation
On October 18th EMI will release a budget compilation ("The Collection") featuring a few choice singles and select album tracks. This is being aimed at mainstream music retail (superstores, supermarkets, service stations) to try to spread the word on NMA and introduce us to a new audience that may only be familiar with one or two singles. There is nothing on the album that you will not have already but it is a great sounding CD and has new Joolz artwork .
Track Listing: Stupid Questions, 225, Eleven Years, Courage, Space, Heroes, 51st State, Vanity, No Rest, Ballad Of Bodmin Pill, Deadeye, Smalltown England (Live), Drag It Down, I Love The World (Live)
The NMA Art & Artefacts Exhibition
Thanks to the hard work of Nina Baptiste and Joolz Denby, the New Model Army Art & Artefacts Exhibition will be going ahead. Many thanks also to those who sent in comments and submissions, which were very helpful (and interesting). The exhibition will open first in small preview format at the Courthouse Arts Centre, a gallery in Otley near Bradford on Saturday 25th of September. It will be launched with a gig by Justin and Dean (which is already sold out) and will run for two weeks. At this stage, with only a very limited display space, the exhibition will be based around examples of Joolz' original NMA artwork. The full exhibition, including more of Joolz' originals, backdrops, rough lyric originals, old instruments, t-shirt designs, music, DVDs and much more will open at the international gallery, Cartwright Hall in Bradford on the 11th December and run until the 30th of January 2005.
Since the original exhibition plans were made, there has been a great deal of interest in the project from a number of other galleries across Britain and beyond, so we now hope that the exhibition will be 'on tour' for much of the band's 25th year.
Obviously the exhibition will be visited by hundreds of people who are not familiar with New Model Army, or the way in which for many people, it has become more than just a band. Therefore, it is our intention to include in the exhibits an album of writings, stories and reminiscences from Family members for whom NMA has been an important factor in their lives. These writings could take the form of testimonies about the effect NMA has had on you, along the lines of the wonderful letters already sent to Nina; or they could be in story or letter form or they could be poems. Contributions can be either anonymous or signed. Please send your submissions to
Tour News
N America
We are still planning to be back across the Atlantic for full band electric shows this autumn. We are currently looking at several options with the most likely being October 13th to 26th and taking in:
Washington DC
New York City
Boston MA
Toronto (possibly Montreal as well)
Chicago
Los Angeles
San Francisco
Seattle.
We would love to do more, but the costs for the full band are much higher than the three piece show. If all goes according to plan we should be announcing details at the end of this month
Europe
The traditional run off New Model Army shows will take place again this winter. Full details will be announce in the next newsletter. The period will be December 15th to 20th inclusive.
Justin Solo
Justin Sullivan will be doing one concert (completely) solo in Trier at the Roman amphitheatre on September 4th. It's possible that there might be a other one-off gigs this autumn but it is understood that the priority is to finish the new album.
New Studio Album
Since the last newsletter the band have been very busy touring America and Justin has been popping in and out of Europe for festival activities.
In between all that work has progressed steadily on the material to the follow up to Eight and the first recording sessions will be taking place before the proposed N American tour.
Beautiful Days
Congratulations to The Levellers on their success with the Beautiful Days festival. Tickets are all sold out and those of you that were at last years event will know what a treat those than weren't are in for. NMA are on the main stage on Sunday night at 8pm. If you get the chance, also check out Warmachines Of Love in the Big Top at 1:00 pm on the same day - the band features one Adrian Portas former NMA guitarist.
Nozzle
The new Nozzle album "Twisted Vision" will be released on Attack Attack Records at the end of September with stocks in The Shop from the beginning of that month. For those of you that are unaware, Nozzle is the side project of NMA guitarist Dave Blomberg and the new album also features the drumming talents of Michael Dean.
Online Shop
There will be a delay in the processing of orders at the Online store during the last two weeks of August while the Shop Team take short holiday. Please carry on ordering as normal and they will get all orders out as quickly as possible on their return.
Justin Sullivan and Friends
Tales of the Road
The Justin, Michael and Dean live album is finished and the first copies are now available for purchase in The Shop. It will be in all good high street shops next month.
The DVD, recorded in Darmstadt last year will be released early next month.

Sound has been mixed by the band with producer Chris Tsangarides and the results are sad to be outstanding.
Work is underway on the visuals and we hope to have a lot more to report (such as what it will be called) when we get to the April newsletter
New Studio Album
Since last month work has progressed significantly towards the ever-so-long-awaited-new-New-Model-Army-full-band-studio-album. The song writing and demos now have "real substance" according to our sources and we will continue to let you know how things develop.
Summer Fun
We are planning a few short excursions this summer. We hope to announce a welcome return to a beloved outdoor venue in Germany later this month for a show in early summer. We are also confirmed to play at this years Beautiful Days festival near Exeter on the week-end of 21st and 22nd of August.
Red Sky Coven Volumes 1 & 1?
Did you buy RSC Vols 1 & 2 (blue 2 disc set) on the recent tour, only to get home and find Vols 1 & 1? We know there are at least 25 copies (one box) like that and have only had 12 back so far. If you have one please return it to the address below for immediate exchange (we will even refund your postage)

Johannesburg
We are delighted to be able to report that in addition to the two full band shows on 19th & 20th March in Johannesburg there will be a third show in JHB. On Wednesday 17th at Doors Nightclub Justin and Dean will perform an exclusive acoustic set as a warm up and to announce our arrival in South Africa.
Cape Town
In response to incredible demand, Justin will be performing an additional solo show in Cape Town on Saturday 3rd April. As this newsletter was being prepared we were still awaiting confirmed details but will update this space as soon as we know more.
Details for these shows can be found at the website of the promoters in South Africa - www.alter-ego.co.za
South Africa tour CD
Another reminder that to coincide with the dates in March a limited edition compilation CD is being produced for the South African market. Entitled "Original 20" it is a collection along the lines of Great Expectations but featuring a slightly different listing:
It has been produced by the organizers of the tour to help offset the high cost of bringing us to SA and will be limited to 2000 copies. It will only be available at the shows and at branches of Look & Listen - a chain of CD stores in SA who are helping to promote the dates and are also selling tickets, although that said, we are bound to smuggle a few copies home and hope to able to offer limited quantities through The Shop!
Attack Attack Records
The label set up by the band to release new material by NMA has just releases it's first non NMA product. We are proud to be producing our friend Rev Hammer's new studio CD "Spitting Feathers". It is currently available in The Shop and will be on general release soon.
We will be following this up with the new album from Dave Blomberg's excellent side project Nozzle. The album, entitled "Twisted Vision" will be released in the early summer to coincide with a European tour which is currently being put together.
Justin Sullivan and Friends
Tales of the Road
The Justin, Michael and Dean live album is finished and will be released into the shops at the end of March. We expect to have early stock in the on-line shop on this site at the beginning of March
The long delay has been caused by touring commitments and by the the very real problem of searching through the many shows that were recorded for the best tracks. Final listing is al follows:
Tales of the Road
Heroes
Afternoon Song
Ocean Rising
Lurstapp
Headlights
Masters Of War
These Words
Drummy B
All Of This
Stranger

Work has now started on the production of this exciting new release. Michael Dean is going into the studio in mid February with producer Chris Tsangarides to mix the sound, so that part will be as good as it gets. Don't forget that a CD of the concert will be packaged with initial copies of the DVD.
We don't have details of the release date as yet but hope it will be out before the summer - that'll give us a good excuse to go on tour..............
Babies in the Family
Congratulations to our European booking agent Dave Chumbley and his wife Rom on the birth of baby Tom.
Red Sky Coven
Justin, Joolz, Rev and Brett would like to thank everyone involved the the recent dates. They said that the last run was the most enjoyable so far they hope you all had a great time.
It has been brought to our attention that some copies of the Red Sky Coven Vol 1&2 CD that were sold on the tour were actually Red Sky Coven Vol 1&1 !! If you were unlucky enough to get home and find two copies of disc 1 in your CD, please send it to us for an immediate replacement.

South Africa
Less than a month to go as theis (late as usual) Newsletter was being prepared. We are very thrilled to be making out first visit. We have had communications fromfans asking why we are only playing is Johannesburg. There are many reasons, one is cost and the other main one is a lack of suitably sized venues with production. We hope that when the success of the forthcoming trip becomes more widely known, we will be able to come back and do a broader series of dates.
Details for these shows can be found at www.alter-ego.co.za

North America
Plans are underway for a return to touring in America. As we stated before, the plan is to come back with Justin & Dean and carry on where we left off.
It is looking likely that we will start in New York on or about April 15th and then go south and east - taking in Virginia, The Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Louisiana. We hope to then hop further west and do LA, San Diego, Tijuana, Tucson, Albuquerque, Denver, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
As before any suggestions for suitable venues (150 - 400 capacity with good house sound system) more than welcome. Please mail thoughts to

Those of you who made it to The Astoria on Dec 16th will not have failed to notice the cameras. There were 8 in all, including a madman who spent all show in the pit, and the rushes (previews of each cameras shots) look great. This DVD is being produced by a third party so we have little control over the timing but we hope that it will be out sooner rather than later.
As we have previously stated, the DVD will come packed with an audio CD of the same concert.
South Africa
Details are confirmed and as you have probably read elsewhere the full band will be playing two shows in Johannesburg on Friday and Saturday, 19th & 20th March, at the Newtown Music Hall (previously known as The Mega Music Hall). Advance tickets are priced at 185 Rand.
There will also be a warm up show, on 17th March, when Justin (possibly accompanied by Dean) will play at the Doors nightclub. Tickets for this show are very limited and are priced at 100 Rand advance.
Newsletter
Welcome to our third newsletter.
Sorry it is a bit late this month but between America and Europe there has been little time. However you can find news here of the forthcoming Red Sky Coven dates and first news of our debut in South Africa.
North America
We'd like to thank all the people who attended the shows in North America for the fantastically warm welcome we received. Despite (or maybe because of) the long wait and the huge mileage count (6987 in three and a half weeks), this was the most enjoyable tour we have done there and we hope it
won't be too long before we return - perhaps in Spring in the same format to play some of the areas that we couldn't reach this time and then hopefully with the full band after the next album.
A number of releases are now scheduled for North America....
Three titles are already available - Navigating By The Stars, Eight & Strange Brotherhood were released through Redeye Distribution on Dec 2nd. Lost Songs & ...& Nobody Else, the two 2CD sets available will be released early in the Spring
Justin Sullivan and Friends Project:
The live DVD and album recorded on last years tour have unfortunately been delayed but are finished and will finally be released in the spring.
Red Sky Coven
Three years since their last tour together, Red Sky Coven are back. Justin Sullivan, Joolz Denby, Rev Hammer and Brett Selby will be taking their unique blend of poetry, music, humour and story-telling on a short series of dates in Germany, Holland and Britain. For those that have not seen this show, it is a truly unique event based on a twenty year friendship between
four very different artists....

Newsletter #1 - October 2003
Justin Sullivan and Friends Project:
As promised, there is both a live DVD of the concert in Darmstadt and a live album on their way. Dean has been in Germany recently editing the Darmstadt footage while Justin and Michael spent much of the summer listening to and mixing the many hours of available material for a compilation album. The trio's shows at Ankara and Eskisehir in Turkey will take place on the 17th and 18th of October and, for the many Turkish fans who have been asking, we hope there will be a full NMA show in Istanbul next year.
photo - Chiaki Nozu
North America:
We have been making every effort to make something happen here for the many people who have kept the faith in North America for so long. We are confident that the long awaited tour will take place in November but we have not been able to formally announce all the dates as we do not yet have either a complete itinerary nor work permits (though we are not anticipating any problems with these). For both budgetary and personal reasons, Michael will not be coming on this occasion so we expect that the concerts to be based around the blistering performance given by Justin and Dean in front of 50,000 people at this year's Rheinkultur Festival.
However we realise that many people need to know at least roughly where we will be going. Our approximate month-long itinerary begins in Washington DC. Then we will make our way up the East Coast, through Eastern Canada to Chicago, south to Texas, across to Los Angeles and finally north to Seattle. The itinerary as it stands is listed below. Confirmed shows in bold. The rest will be updated as we get them
Great Expectations - The Singles Collection
A few months ago, Superfecta Records who have licensed the band's Capitol Records catalogue approached us to let us know that they would be putting out a 'History' type compilation of NMA singles in North America and to invite our contribution. We are pleased to say that they have agreed to include the band's Sony and more recent singles, a couple of gems previously unavailable on CD (including Andy Wallace's 'Poison Street 12inch' mix) and some new original Joolz artwork. This album is released in America on Oct 9th. Stocks are on their way to The Shop for European collectors and a free download of one Wonderful Way To Go is available here.
We are also close to reaching a deal with a US distributor for the band's last four releases on their own Attack Attack label together with Justin's 'Navigating By The Stars' album that was recently #1 pick in the long-running Stateside Underground music magazine 'The Big Takeover.'

Lots of miles to which we are looking forward very much. After a ten year break, visas permitting, we will be back. Please help these shows be as special as the European ones. Any help with street level promotion gratefully received.
EMI:
Always trying to find ways of continuing to exploit their catalogue, EMI are discussing releasing a DVD of their promotional videos. As we have succeeded in doing with Superfecta, we are currently trying to persuade them to include more recent promos and other material including perhaps some or all of the 1996 Bizzarre Festival concert.
Great Expectations - track listing
Red Sky Coven
Plans are afoot for a long awaited Red Sky Coven tour. We are looking at the end of January at the moment and will advise as soon as things become clear.
NMA
The December shows will be the band's first concerts this year. However work has already begun on a new album for release next year and we expect that some of the new material will be played at some of these shows. Meanwhile Nelson has continued to be involved in a whole host of musical projects in the Colchester area while Dave has been putting the finishing touches to the second 'Nozzle' CD.
There will be a lengthy tour in support of the new album next year
