Dave Blomberg leaves New Model Army after 12 years

After almost thirteen years as guitarist with New Model Army, Dave Blomberg has left the band to spend more time with his young family and concentrate on his other project “Nozzle” whose second album “Twisted Vision” is getting major label interest in the USA. His last performance with us was at this years Beautiful Days Festival where New Model Army formed the band for the performance of Rev Hammer’s Freeborn John.

Dave's replacement has been confirmed as Marshall Gill, who was brought to our attention by a studio engineer with whom we worked on the new album. Marshall made his debut at the Festival de la Sierrevoise in Switzerland on August 27th. This will be followed by Dusseldorf, Warsaw and then the North American Tour.

European fans (other than those at the above dates) will get their first taste of the new line up on the first night of the tour in Exeter on October 13th.

We want to thank Dave for everything he has given to the band for the past twelve and a half years. His contribution and unique style will be missed, but we totally understand his decision that his family should come first. We wish him well with Nozzle who fans also got a chance to see at Beautiful Days this year.

Marshall picks up from a long line of exceptional guitarists with whom we have been proud to share a stage and we are sure he will fit right in.

Although this will come as a complete surprise to all of you, please understand that we were unable to make any announcement until now to protect the privacy of all concerned.

BEAUTIFUL DAYS

New Model Army took part in the first live performances of Rev Hammer's Freeborn John at this years Beautiful Days Festival. The shows were a resounding success with the hillside gallery packed with up to 2000 fans each night. All the performers, who included Maddy Prior, Rory McLeod, Rev, NMA, Levellers, Phil Johnstone, Romney Getty and Harry Fulcher, really enjoyed taking part. Thanks should go to Dave Farrow and The Levellers for providing the facilities at the festival. A live album and DVD is currently being put together.

NEW EMI REMASTERS

NORTH AMERICA
Thanks. Again.

Thanks to all of you who turned out for the recent return of the full band to N America. It was great to feel that all the hours in the van were worth it every time the band walked on stage.

We are currently making plans for a return in October 2006

Our appearance at SXSW showed the entire business what we were made of - just check the review!! (SXSW pdf)

JUSTIN SULLIVAN - on a slow boat to Canada...

On Monday, January 13th, Justin shipped out as a passenger on the Canmar Pride - an Atlantic ice-cutting freighter, bound for Montreal. During the voyage, which lasted approximately eleven days Justin sailed through two hurricanes and arrived safely late on Friday 24th. Justin spent his time watching the waves, doing interviews via the ship's satellite phone and writing for the new NMA album which will be recorded later this year. On his arrival in Canada, he visited Saulte St. Marie, where his great grandfather, Edward Sullivan, was based during his time as Bishop of Algoma, during the late nineteenth century. He also hoped to find out more about his grandfather, the Canadian novelist, engineer and explorer Alan Sullivan. He completed his trip with a two day dog-sled expedition.
He is now home, working on material for the new Army album and preparing for the upcoming tour.

Following an accident on stage at Rock Am Ring, Campino, lead singer with DTH has seriously ripped the ligaments in his knee. He will undergo an operation on Tuesday but they have cancelled all their shows for this summer. This means that our performances will not now happen. We hope you will join with us to wish Campino a speedy recovery. We have no news of rescheduled dates or refunds at toadys date. We'll pass on more info when we get it. Very sorry, we know alot of you had planned to travel, and with NMA not now appearing at Expo the summer looks a little quiet. However we hope to have news of other shows very soon.

"Eight" will be released in Greece on June 19th on Trade Records. The album should be available in Virgin, Metropolis and all good independants. The live album "...& Nobody Else" will be released in September.

Details of the upcoming dates for the rest of the year, including a special 20th anniversary show at Rock City and two nights at London's Astoria are now available. More will be added as they are confirmed. LATEST - warm up show, Tunbridge Wells Forum, 30th June.

We have been receiving alot of mail asking why we are going ahead with the Austrian tour dates when most other artists are cancelling as a 'protest'. We have been in contact with various anti-facist organisationa and we think it is all summed up best by the following email from an organisation called "Demonstate"

>From: "demonstate - links gegen Rechts" <demonstate@hotmail.com>
>To: *******, promo@szenewien.com
>Subject: not boycott but loud protest
>Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2000 10:52:26 GMT
>
>Dear Justin Sullivan,
>
>In regard to the email from Christine Flamond we strongly ask you to go on
>with your austrian tourplans. We see how much damage has been made through
>the european sanctions - the fpoe-party has enlarged their potential in the
>last month up to 5 percent - a lot of people think that this is because of
>Europe an their way of dealing with this problem.
>We understand this reaction, boycott seems to be the most effective way of
>showing protest - also a lot of austrian artists reacted in this way at the
>beginning.
>But it's clear: by boycotting austria and the austrian citizens you
>strenghten the nationalistic feelings in our country in a way like: "Who
>needs the EU - we can deal without them too..." and this helps the
>fpoe-party and haider who can build a new enemy into the austrian mind.
>We think that everyone should boycott the austrian government with all the
>possible force (also the EU!) but not the austrian citizens by asking to
>"stop skiing in austria".
>And by showing you this european example we ask you and your band not to
>stop the protest - not to be quiet and forget austrians "other" society -
>play the loudest and best concerts here and fight the new austrian
>government by shouting out your thoughts, showing up alternatives and
>uniting for protest!!!
>
>We have made a project where we tried to help people in getting information
>through the internet on this concern - we are sorry that it's only in
>german but you might get an inspiration on how wide the range of great
>austrian and international initiatives against our government are.

We hope this explains our position to all of you. If you have any comment to make please mail us at austria@newmodelarmy.org

Did you buy a shirt at any of these shows on the current tour? - Dublin Feb 25th, Bristol March 1st, Wolverhampton March 2nd or London March 3rd.

It has been brought to our attention by the suppliers of our printed merchandise that, due to a machine error, some (or all) of the prints may not have cured (dried) properly. This means that the print will come off when they are washed. All of the tour stock sold up to, and including, London is at risk.

If you find a problem with your purchase please send it back to us for an immediate replacement. Make sure you include your name and address and let us know where you bought it.

Please send faulty items too:

chandise, PO Box 162, Bradford, BD3 8YH

and NOT NMAFC

We can only apologise for this. It is a right pain for all of us. We have no way of knowing how many of the shirts have been affected but we are assured that all purchases made at and after Bradford on March 4th have been correctly cured.
